Stevivor: Now you’re in a super massive SuperMassive alumni of big-name people: Rami Malek, Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Tisdale was in the last one. It was just like a great, personal, more intimate experience. ![]() I actually made a few friends from the set one of my best mates, Zach Tinker, he’s also in the video game. Me, not being a native Los Angelean or Los Angelalite - however, you want to call it – I didn’t know many people. Which was great, because we got to know each other a little bit better. We actually were acting more in groups - we didn’t really do any of the large group scenes together we were always acting with three or four of us. Then coming back into it, there was a lot of COVID restrictions. Initially, we started the whole process, I believe, in early 2020 and then obviously the world stopped. Stevivor: I’m assuming this was done in the midst of COVID protocols, so did you get to act with your fellow camp counselors and bounce off each other? Or was it self-contained? That’s probably the only thing I’d have altered with my look. But if I could I’d probably maybe ask for some like Harry Potter-esque glasses. The character’s very slim when they do the body scans, everything is exactly into proportion of who you are. Stevivor: Did you get to make any like requests? Like, ‘I’d like my left bicep just a little bit bigger’?Įvagora: If anything, to maybe a little bit taller. Because although I am Elnor with the elf ears and the eyebrows, the rendition of me in the game is really, really spot on like scarily accurate. Stevivor: Is it a different experience seeing yourself as Elnor - that’s you, that’s physically you - as compared to seeing like a a digital copy of yourself? How does that hit home?Įvagora: I’d say it’s pretty similar, although I freaked out a little bit more - from excitement, I have to add - when I saw myself as a video game character. It required a lot of imagination, but it was so much it was very freeing and fun at the same time. The only way you can see anything is on these monitors, which is really cool when you see yourself as a character and you see that you’re in the woods or in this building, or outside. You’re in essentially a scuba suit, known as a mocap suit, and you’ve got all these dots on your face, and a camera is right in your face to be able to gauge, all of your reactions and facial expressions. You’re in this blank room with all this floored lining that’s everywhere, and then you’ve got these TV screens. But I’d say compared to Picard, The Quarry was that on steroids. What are the similarities and the differences between the two?Įvagora: It is a lot of reacting to nothing you have to use your imagination. Stevivor: I’m imagining you on La Serena in Star Trek Picard - you’ve got fake years on and you’re pretending to dodge phaser blasts, but I’m imagining The Quarry experience is more like your colleague Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen – kitted up with dots everywhere and rigged up, reacting to nothing. And it was – it was an amazing experience. Because it’s a different medium and a different type of filming - the whole process itself – I thought it’d be a different kind of challenge for me as an actor. I had heard of Until Dawn before I even started playing it.ĭirector Will Byles was just amazing to work with, and he’s got this really amazing reputation. It was this kind of teen horror - I mean, it is video game, but it plays out like a movie. What drew you to The Quarry ? Was it that supernatural horror slant, or that you get to be in an 80s-style slasher movie?Įvagora: I think it was a bit of everything. Stevivor: And now you’re basically in Until Dawn, but the the next iteration. I was so, so gutted that I didn’t play it earlier ’cause all I wanted to do is play every different ending it in and see all these crazy outcomes. Just before we started this production, all of my friends were telling me that I needed to play Until Dawn. In terms of video games, I grew up playing Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto I was really big on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Loved that, loved the whole concept who doesn’t like a teen-based horror movie? I recently just watched the new Scream - the one that came out very recently. In terms of horror, I watch pretty much one horror movie a week. I just wanted to start off talking about video games and horror and seeing if you’re a fan of of one, or both, or none.Įvan Evagora: I’m a fan of both. Steve Wright, Stevivor: Evan, thanks so much for this most appreciated. ![]() There's a particularly dangerous enemy aka boss, waiting for you in the end. Play online and for free as antifa member BJ Blazkowicz (US Army division) and escape Castle Wolfenstein's many floors. Most servers have an XP reset that keeps the player from reaching a dead end.Wolfenstein 3D is a classic first-person shooter in which you shoot Nazis in the face. As the player gains experience (see the classes info for more detail), the player can gain several advantages, such as landmine detection and akimbo pistols. One feature that Wolfenstein has that several others lack is an experience system - players can select from a list a series of classes. A good tactic is to find out the spawn time of your enemy, for example looking at the mission timer, and time your attacks so that every dead opponent will have to wait a full time spawn. Experienced players should watch the timer all the time - dying to a 1 second spawn practically means losing your position (and a life, if the server has the rarely used Limited Lives feature enabled) and resetting your health and ammo, while a 30 second spawn can be deadly if there are only a few players. With default settings, you can see the spawn timer in the right side of the screen. In the default maps - assuming that the server settings aren't changing it - Allies spawn every 20 seconds and the Axis every 30 seconds, the only exception being Rail Gun where both have a 20 second spawn. In all but the LMS mode, dead players respawn all at the same time, every X seconds. Each map has the Allies attempting to accomplish a certain objective, and the Axis must hold the Allies off for a set amount of time (the only exception is Rail Gun, where the roles are reversed). The maps are Gold Rush, Siwa Oasis, Seawall Battery, Rail Gun, Wurzburg Radar, and Fuel Dump. The six default maps covered in two campaigns. Some add tracers, while others can allow double-jumps. Being unable to document all of them, this guide will cover the six default maps and assume the player is playing on an otherwise unmodded server - several servers have varying differences. Players can either play as Germany or as the Americans in six default maps, although thanks to the modding community there are now literally hundreds of playable maps. The source code of the game is also available to assist the modding community, and currently it has several mods and a dedicated following. While originally meant to be a standalone game with single player, the project never got off the ground this has led to the multiplayer version to be released as freeware. If you want a frightening insight into how expensive bespoke design can be, it's taken State of Play three years to make a game that lasts just over three hours.Īnd yet, if it's not quite half-built, it all feels a little incomplete. ![]() It all adds up to an astonishing place to explore: a modern Trumpton or Camberwick Green. Like every good indie video game, Lumino City has a lighthouse, but this lighthouse has a lens of thick, deeply scored glass. Elsewhere, there's a perfect Airstream diner, the size, most likely, of a milk bottle, resting near a clutter of copper piping. There's a wonderful eye for dreamlike detail: way up high on the arching back of a giant flywheel you'll find a ship that has come to rest, far from the ocean, while its captain slumbers in a sagging hammock. The metropolis you pick a path through has real variety, from sheer pasteboard cliffs where little cage-fronted shanties move in and out with the shifting of unseen cogwork, to a security hut that's built from an old camera. Lumino City is sprawling and intricate, and every finial and fusebox speaks of a deep sense of craft. Doors were drawn on walls in felt pen, and camera movements had a sweet and homely shakiness to them. Lume was a clever piece of work, but it had the look of an afternoon's fun that got seriously out of hand. It's a massive expansion in terms of scope and scale. The narrative follows a girl named Lumi who's looking for her missing grandfather, but the real story is one of constant discovery and delight: each screen in this point-and-click puzzle adventure taking you somewhere ingenious and new. Like Lume before it, State of Play's latest takes place against a backdrop of physical models, pieced together from cardboard and wiring and doll's furniture and scraps of felt. Lumino City has an architect - and it's the architecture that makes the most lasting impression here. Games get built, even if the building blocks themselves are little more than light, and the scaffolds are scaffolds of code. Somebody had to blueprint the Citadel, the Cradle, the Skycrown battlements where I've bludgeoned so many demons and helped raise so many catapults. Architect: not a credit you expect to see in a game's post-victory crawl. |
